Gociety App Joins Outdoor Adventurers Alike
Have
you ever wanted to explore the outdoors, but have not been able to
find anyone to join you? Gociety was created just for people like
you to network and enjoy outdoor activities together. Founded in
January 2014 by Alex Witkowicz, Gociety fosters a community of
like-minded individuals who hold a love for the outdoors and are
looking for others to join them in their adventures. The name
Gociety explains in itself what the aim of the company is – get
people to GO and join with others in SOCIETY.
Want to spontaneously hike a mountain trail, ski a black diamond mountain run, or kayak a class five rapid in the afternoon sun? If you are in an active area of the growing 10,000+ Gociety members, you can find a variety of outdoor activities to partake in. Don’t see anything that catches your eye? Create a new activity and wait for the requests to come in – you can choose to approve or deny the join requests from other users. The Gociety community has been rapidly increasing since forming over a year ago, with great momentum that may soon take the outdoor community movement worldwide.
One
of the regions where Gociety has been picking up speed is in Seattle,
Washington, a paradise for lovers of the outdoors. “All of my
friends want to be taking advantage of Washington’s adventurous
landscape, but it’s always hard to find other people that are just
as hyped up about fitness, the outdoors, and adventure. Gociety
basically breaks it down in a way that it’s not just a meet-up
group catered to one specific thing, it’s more an outdoors
community—you’re going to hang out with these people outside of
this one event,” notes Ashley Belline, an East coast transplant,
who recently joined the Gociety “trail team.”
The Gociety app allows users to filter by region (currently, this is limited to regions of the United States) and filter by plan activity type – mountain biking, road cycling, running, skiing, snowboarding, water sports, climbing, hiking and camping, moto, “fun in the sun,” or general fitness. Gociety puts some of the activities on themselves, including purely social events (this falls into the category of “fun in the sun”).
The Gociety website acts seamlessly with their free app available to iPhone users on the App Store. There are a few options for logging in – you can either create an account using your e-mail address, or you can link it with your Facebook account and share you activities with friends. The further the community expands, the more opportunities there will be for users to meet and join fellow adventurists. On a recent blog, founder Witkowicz urges users to help “build this together… together we can be a force for positive change…Become a closer part of the Gociety community… every new signup is a vote in favor of our mission.” With that attitude in mind, the sky is the limit for the outdoor adventure community.
