Spend the 4th of July Outdoors
Many Americans are given a day or more off from work on the 4th of July, and this year, the 4th falls on a Saturday! While some stick to tradition by grilling in their backyards with their families, there are many other ways to enjoy the holiday outdoors. Celebrate American tradition this year by stepping outside of your comfort zone and trying a few of these outdoor activities for the 4th of July holiday season.
Camping Close to Home
When folks think of camping, many immediately think of excursions out in the wilderness. But the fact of the matter is that one can enjoy a camping trip with their family right in their own backyards! There’s no need to plan an extravagant trip to the wilderness when one can simply enjoy sleeping under the stars in their own backyards. It’s cheaper, and with fireworks in most local areas, you may be able to view the shows from the comfort of your own home.
A great way to get closer to nature without having to travel is by investing in a hammock. Since you’re close to home, there’s no need to pitch a whole tent if you’re looking for a quick getaway. There are even two-person hammocks great for cozying up with the one you love! Simply tie your hammock between two supports, and enjoy spending the night under the stars (and fireworks!) in your own backyard.
Plan a Day Trip
When you have children, you’re probably looking for ways to have them enjoy the holiday while burning off the extra energy built up from the excitement of the holiday. Find a short trail that can be completed in a few hours tops, and take your camping cookware with you to enjoy a lunch out on the trail! You can still make it back in time to enjoy fireworks in the evening while having a full day of family fun.

Visit Your Local Watering Hole
Many dads like to connect with their sons and daughters with a fishing trip, but the entire family can enjoy a day out on the water with activities like swimming, fishing, and boating. Local pontoon boat rentals can make for spectacular firework viewing in the evenings as well, so long as you’re close enough to the fireworks for viewing. Some boats are even equipped with grills, so you can have your holiday meal out on the water as well!
