President Barack Obama Runs Wild in Alaska with Bear Grylls
It was just recently announced that President Barack Obama will be the first commander in chief to appear on the show Running Wild with Bear Grylls, a show in which celebrities are thrown into the wilderness and pushed to their mental and physical limits while testing their survival skills. President Obama will spend three days in the great outdoors when he travels to Alaska with Bear Grylls to learn how to survive in the wilderness and to learn more about the impacts of climate control on the state. While the filming is set to take place now, the episode is not scheduled to air to the public until later this year.
While trekking through the Alaskan wilderness, President Obama’s main goal is to learn more about the climate control struggle in Alaska, in order to take more preventative measures going forward. The President was seen in a photo near Resurrection Bay, expressing the beauty of the area. He stresses that Resurrection Bay is home to many animals and landmarks, including whales, sea lions, jagged cliffs, and alpine glaciers - and that this place is certainly worth protecting to the best of our abilities.
Over the course of the three-day trip, Obama and Grylls also plan to visit the melting Exit Glacier in Seward, the salmon fishing mecca in the village of Dillingham, and finally, the small town of Kotzebue to wrap up their trip. While visiting each of these areas, Obama hopes to capture the frightening sights of melting ice caps, crumbling permafrost, and villages facing the threat of rising sea levels, in order to share these things and spread the word about climate control struggles in Alaska with the rest of the world. Alaska’s governor has even shared with President Obama that, horrifically, four villages are in imminent danger of being swallowed by the rising sea levels, and have already had to be relocated.
Finally, on a lighter, more humorous note, President Obama may be in for a not so pleasant surprise when learning how to survive in the great outdoors. Anyone who is familiar with Bear Grylls and his show knows that many of his survival techniques stress the importance of drinking one’s own urine to survive. This may indeed be something that he feels that Obama needs to learn as a survival technique while out in the Alaskan wilderness. People have even started a petition, demanding that this happen! Good luck, President Obama! Just remember, only the strongest survive!
